Ponieheart Crane Orchard is three years or three days in the making, depending on how you look at it. It is the foundation or the attic or perhaps the basement of Paul Fugazzotto's musical house. Ponieheart Crane Orchard is two parts of a musical whole, as the individual parts came from the same place but took different paths; a musical schizophrenia of sorts… singer-songwriter or band?

Crane Orchard started as the project of Paul Fugazzotto II and Nick Punch in 2003 when Paul played some two track recordings for Nick. Nick layered guitars and keys to the basic formula and Crane Orchard was born. The two forged a musical partnership over the years, taking their show on the road as a two piece, then three, finally arriving at four players to do justice to their multi-textured first recording, the Finish Raw Edges Firs t EP. After a year of live performances throughout the southeast, the quartet started work on their first full length, Spread Your Lies Wholeheartedly.

As the recording grew heads, the singer-songwriter grew antsy, desperate to reconnect with his guitar. Paul began playing a few shows solo, as Ponieheart. Soon he was writing more material than Crane Orchard could work on. The pseudonym took hold and a new project was born. Paul decided to use Ponieheart as an outlet for some of his more obscure songs he felt needed to be laid down, perhaps for an eternal sleep. The lusty "Red Telephone" or the confessional "Moses" are good examples of songs that needed this type of treatment. He began to feel the need for the intimacy of his early two track recordings, the raw and less-sophisticated treatment of vocals and guitar. In January 2006, Paul headed to Oakland, CA for three days of therapy with Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu). The end of the session birthed eleven songs, and the two added minimal flourishes to punctuate the moodswing that is Touch to Love.

Returning to Birmingham with a clean house, Paul rejoined the Crane Orchard camp to put the finishing touches on Spread Your Lies Wholeheartedly. Upon completion it was obvious that the two recordings were significantly related. The records even share a few songs with different interpretations. Their symbiosis demanded their joint release.

Ponieheart Crane Orchard: a collection of songs, organized in two CD's. One is less produced, one is more produced. Both were created from a vision of wholeness. Please enjoy them as equal parts of that whole.
